Green Roofs

Green Roof Surfaces

Green roofs are a widely used solution for urban buildings and houses, used mainly to comply with landscape constraints, and are also a special resource for the installation of photovoltaic systems with Sun Ballast support structures.

A green roof maintains a suitable temperature even during the hottest period of the day, and avoids the drop in solar panel production that often comes from overheating.

Our customers’ favourite: the Standard system

The Standard system is the most popular and versatile of the Sun Ballast systems. It allows great freedom in panel installation since the ballasts can be used independently or connected to each other as needed. The Standard system offers a wide range of inclinations ranging from 0°, for panels coplanar to the roof, up to 35°.

Thanks to that wide range of inclinations, this type of system can be easily adapted to different types of situations; the lowest inclinations, 0°, 3° or 5° are ideal for installations on roofs where compliance with landscape constraints is necessary. Therefore, it is a flexible system not only because it meets the needs of the landscape in which the building is set, but also because of its ability to adapt to the needs of the roof. In fact, it is quite easy and quick to get around obstacles. The catalogue also includes raised ballasts (up to a maximum of 60 cm from the surface) that are particularly suitable for installations on green roofs, since they allow vegetation to grow without affecting the productivity of the panels.

The Standard system, thanks to its variety of inclinations, can vary in weight and thus be adaptable to the structural needs of different roofs; however, this does not result in less wind resistance. This already highly wind-resistant system can also be made even more solid and stable with the addition of additional, “U”-shaped weights perfect for being inserted on the ballasts without the need to drill any fixing holes. Another accessory designed to maximize the wind resistance of all Sun Ballast systems including the Standard is Cablowind.

Cablowind is a dual-function element. First, it serves as a channel for proper cable housing. Second, it serves as an additional ballast for more sturdiness.

This accessory can be installed on all vertical and horizontal models of Sun Ballast supports over 3°.
