Designed to make the most of all available spaces, Sun Ballast’s Sail system represents a simple and quick-to-install solution that allows for maximizing all surfaces dedicated to PV installations, even in tight spaces.

 

The Sail system is composed of various photovoltaic weights, each made with a different height from the ground: this allows for aligning the rows of PV panels to form actual “sails” of modules, optimizing spaces and effectively managing both shading and obstacles present on the roof, as visible in the photo. Depending on the roof’s characteristics, the concrete weights can be positioned in single rows as well, freely adjusting the distance between them and selecting the most suitable height. Each photovoltaic weight already contains pre-inserted fixing bushings within the concrete, and the clips provided with the structures make assembly even faster and safer. Available with two different inclinations, the 10° Sail system allows for arranging up to three consecutive rows of modules, while with the 5° version – used in this installation – the rows increase to six.

 

The 12 kWp PV system shown in the photo was installed by our client Mechkat Bouldin Architectes on the flat roof membrane of a building in Le Grand-Saconnex, Switzerland, and thanks to Sun Ballast’s photovoltaic weights, the installation was carried out minimizing installation times, avoiding any roof penetrations, and easily adapting to the specific characteristics of the roof.
